Coalition For A Safe Environment

Organization History

The Coalition For A Safe Environment was founded in April 2001 by
Jesse N. Marquez a lifetime Wilmington resident as a committee to investigate Port of Los Angeles
expansion projects environmental and public health impacts on Wilmington residents and the local
Harbor community.

The committee was originally named the Wilmington Coalition For A Safe Environment and is locally
often simply called the Wilmington Coalition.

However, due to the organizations new involvement in the neighboring Port of Long Beach proposed expansion projects and the organizations increased membership from neighboring communities and cities the organization name was changed to the Coalition For A Safe Environment.    The Coalition is also involved in broader goods movement regional issues and has increased its involvement in other related business industries that impact Port and Goods Movement Transportation Corridor communities.

In the year 2002 the committee became a more formal non-profit organization and established a governing Board of Directors.    The Coalition For A Safe Environment currently has members in 19 cities.
